- Happy Scribe has four self-serve plans: Free, Basic, Pro and Business, plus Enterprise on request.
- Monthly prices on its pricing page are $17 (Basic), $29 (Pro) and $89 (Business). Billed annually they are $8.50, $19 and $59 a month.

- Human proofreading starts at $2.00 a minute ($1.90 on Business).
- All figures come from Happy Scribe's own pricing page, checked on October 25, 2026. Prices change, so confirm before you buy.
If you are pricing Happy Scribe for subtitle or transcript work, the headline monthly price is only part of the answer. What matters is how many minutes are included, which export formats each plan unlocks, and whether burned-in video carries a watermark. This guide sets those out plan by plan, then shows where a different setup may fit better.

What the Free plan actually covers
Happy Scribe's Free plan needs no credit card. For uploaded files it gives a 10-minute trial of machine transcription, subtitling and translation. Exports are limited to TXT and SRT, and burned-in MP4 video carries a watermark. It also includes one style guide and one glossary. Treat it as a way to test the editor on a short clip, not as a plan for client work.
Basic, Pro and Business: where the real differences are
Minutes. Basic includes 120 minutes a month, Pro 600 and Business 6,000. On annual billing these become yearly pools (1,440, 7,200 and 72,000 minutes). Happy Scribe's FAQ says plan credits reset each billing cycle, while top-up credits stay in your balance until used.
Subtitle formats. This is the line most subtitle editors care about. Basic exports TXT, SRT, PDF and DOCX. VTT, STL, XML, FCPXML, EDL and the other professional formats start on Pro. If a client asks for WebVTT or EBU STL, Basic will not cover it.
Seats. Pro includes three seats and Business five. Extra seats are listed at $29 a month on monthly billing, or $19 a month on annual billing.
Style guides. Free, Basic and Pro each include one style guide and one glossary. Business removes that cap and adds workspace roles and permissions.
Where Happy Scribe is strong
Happy Scribe is a mature, full-featured platform. On the same pricing page it lists:
- transcription and subtitles in 150+ languages and translation in 80+;
- collaborative real-time editing, comments and highlights;
- a meeting notetaker for Zoom, Google Meet and Teams;
- SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliance listed in its security table;
- an optional human service, so you can hand off a file instead of correcting it yourself.
If you need professional subtitle formats such as STL or FCPXML, several seats, or a human-made option on the same account, its Pro and Business plans are built for that.
When a different setup may fit better
Some buyers only need part of what a full platform includes. Three common cases:
- You already have the subtitle file and only need it fixed. If a client rejected an SRT for overlaps or long lines, you may not need new transcription minutes at all. Fix Subtitles checks SRT and VTT files with no account. A free account shows what it found and lets you fix and download, with two short VideoText watermark cues in each free SRT or VTT download. You can also run a quick SRT or VTT check in your browser first; it needs no account and handles files up to 20 MB.
- Your client has their own style guide. Guideline Format applies a client's style guide to a transcript and flags uncertain edits for you to accept or reject. Exporting is never blocked.
- You want one flat monthly price. VideoText Pro is $14.99 a month or $120 a year. It covers files up to 4 hours, speaker labels, client formatting, watermark-free exports and 30 hours of speech a month. Plan details are on the VideoText pricing page.
VideoText transcribes in 69 languages and translates subtitles into 104. Happy Scribe lists more transcription languages, so check that your language is supported before you switch. For a feature-by-feature view, see VideoText vs Happy Scribe.
How to choose a plan
- Mostly SRT, one person, low volume: Basic covers SRT and DOCX exports.
- Clients ask for VTT, STL or editing-system formats: you need Pro or higher.
- A team of three to five people with shared style guides: look at Business.
- You fix or format files more often than you transcribe them: compare what you would pay for minutes you never use against tools built for fixing and formatting.

Next step
If your work is mostly fixing subtitle files or formatting transcripts to a client's rules, try those steps on a real file before you commit to a minutes-based plan. Check a subtitle file with Fix Subtitles, no account needed.
