What is an HTML caption/transcript export?

Many caption editors, transcript tools, and video platforms export timed text as HTML rather than SRT or VTT — for example, elements tagged with data-start/data-end attributes (common in caption-editor exports), begin/end attributes (an HTML-flavored variant of TTML), or plain paragraphs prefixed with a bracketed timestamp like [00:00:12]. This tool reads all three shapes and converts them into a clean, standard SRT file.

Why convert HTML captions to SRT?

SRT is the format nearly every video editor and platform expects — Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, and YouTube Studio all import SRT directly. An HTML export from a caption tool or transcript service usually cannot be imported as-is; converting it to SRT makes it usable in your editing workflow.

Which HTML formats are supported?

This tool auto-detects three common shapes: (1) elements with data-start/data-start-ms and data-end/data-end-ms attributes, (2) elements with begin/end attributes (TTML-style timing embedded in HTML), and (3) plain text blocks where each caption starts with a bracketed or parenthesized timestamp such as [00:00:12] or (1:02:03.456). If your file uses a different structure, try exporting as VTT or SRT directly from the source tool instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What HTML caption formats does this support?
Elements with data-start/data-end (or data-start-ms/data-end-ms) attributes, elements with begin/end attributes, and plain text with bracketed timestamps like [00:00:12] at the start of each caption.
My file didn't convert — why?
This tool needs a recognizable timing marker on each caption block. If your HTML export uses a custom structure, check whether the source tool can export VTT or SRT directly instead.
Does the converted SRT work in Premiere or CapCut?
Yes. The output is standard SRT with sequential numbering and HH:MM:SS,mmm timestamps, importable in any major video editor.
Does my file get uploaded anywhere?
No. All parsing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your file never leaves your device.
Is there a file size limit?
No server-side limit — conversion runs entirely in your browser.
